From Anna Bekerman, March 2020: "I travelled there with students from the art school where I teach Spanish. We were there to see the shelter and to do art projects with the families staying there.
They make Guatemalan bread every Saturday. Their gas stove wasn’t working well when we were there, so they used a campfire beside the oven to heat up an enormous pot of beef stew. Sister Lika, who runs the center, said that many migrants recognize the oven because they had a similar one back home. The shelter is run collectively by the families who stay there - they rotate responsibilities for cooking, cleaning different areas, etc."
